Airport, high school win coveted architecture prize

Architects from the ATEK Group have taken out one of twofirst prizes under the National Architecure Award 2010 for their designof the Hanoi-Amsterdam High School .
The other prize went to HCM City-based Architecture Construction South Company (ACSA) for its design of Lien Khuong Airport in Da Lat.

The competition, considered the most important architectural award in Vietnam , is organised by the Vietnam Architects Association, the Ministry of Construction and the Ministry of Culture, Sports and Tourism.

The 5ha Hanoi - Amsterdam High School, worth 470 billion VND (22.5 million USD), opened last September, said Phan Duy Dong, one of architects who designed the work.

The school has classes with modern equipment, a swimming pool and football ground.

Lien Khuong Airport is located in Duc Trong district in the Central Highlands province of Lam Dong .

The association also awarded 10 second prizes, 21 third prizes and 11 fourth prizes.

The works included buildings, designs for exteriors and interiors – and even publications that analyse and criticise the industry.

Criteria used for assessment included the application of new technologies to save energy or to make buildings more environmentally friendly.

The combination of traditional and modern design elements and creations that harmonise with the terrain were also taken into account.

The winners will receive their prizes on April 23 and 24 to mark Vietnam Architecture Day on April 27.

The prize was founded in 1994 and is held every two years./.
