Vietnam Urban Forum’s 10th Foundation Anniversary

Ha Noi (November 7th, 2013) – Vietnam Urban Forum (VUF) formally celebrated the 10th foundation anniversary which was attended by Minister Trinh Dinh Dung cum VUF’s Chairman and Mrs. Victoria Kwakwa, World Bank’s Country Director in Vietnam cum VUF’s Vice Chairman.

Attending the anniversary there also were Deputy Ministers Nguyen Thanh Nghi and Phan Thi My Linh; representatives from central ministries, professional associations, VUF’s coordination units and VUF’s members.

VUF’s 10 years of development was briefly reviewed by Mr. Do Viet Chien – representative of VUF’s standing unit cum Head of Urban Development Department (the MOC). He emphasized VUF’s important achievements in different periods both in domestic and international level to complete its fully agreed goals which were to foster sharing knowledge and experiences among state management units, scientific associations, professional associations, political and social associations, non-government organizations, individuals and organizations of all economic sectors as well as sponsors to actively form and implement policies on urban development and management, comprehensive strategy on poverty elimination, and increase urban development and management efficiency in Vietnam.

As VUF Chairman, Minister Trinh Dinh Dung highly appreciated VUF’s leaders and members over periods for their contribution in urban development. According to Minister Dung, Vietnam is under urbanization process, urban areas play a vital role in economic transformation. Despite many striking achievements, urban development in Vietnam has some weakness in planning, building quality, poor infrastructure… Commercial houses were paid much attention while social housing was not invested approximately. Minister Dung recommended VUF should integrate green and sustainable growth towards green-clean-smart cities as its sole mission.

VUF’s Vice Chairman, Mrs. Kwakwa, spoke at the Anniversary

On occasion of VUF’s 10 years of foundation, Mrs. Victoria Kwakwa specially thanked the MOC for being the Chairman of VUF. She said the MOC played an important role in operating VUF activities, determining the future of Vietnam urban. She confirmed VUF as an essential member of World Urban Forum and stated that WB would further cooperate with VUF, the MOC and local provinces in Vietnam to help Vietnam in terms of policy forming, technical assistance, infrastructure building…
