Prime Minister Nguyen Xuan Phuc has issued Decision No. 1600/QĐ-TTg approving the national target programme on modern rural construction for the 2016-2020 period.
The estimated total capital for the programme stands at a minimum of VND193.2 trillion (US$8.7 billion).
Accordingly, the programme specifically aims to have 50% of the total number of communes across the nation meeting modern rural standards by 2020, while encouraging each of the centrally-run cities and provinces to strive to have at least one district meeting the new rural standards.
It also targets to have a national average of 15 new rural criteria per commune and have no commune meeting less than five criteria.
The programme will complete the construction of essential facilities meeting requirements for production and living conditions of rural residents in the fields of transportation, electricity, water supply, schools, and communal clinics.
It also aims to improve the quality of life of rural residents and create multiple production models fitted with decent jobs for local people, providing incomes at least 1.8 times higher than that of 2015.
The estimated total capital from the State budget for the programme stands at a minimum of VND193.2 trillion (US$8.7 billion), of which the central budget covers VND63.2 trillion and the rest from local budgets.
