The project aims to increase the wastewater treatment coverage in the city by constructing urban wastewater treatment systems, thereby contributing to the improvement of its public sanitation and sustainable development and outlying downstream areas.

Dong Nai province is undergoing remarkable industrialization, which has included the expansion of more than 200 Japanese companies. However, the sewerage system has not been developed, and untreated wastewater generated in Bien Hoa city is still discharged into the Dong Nai river, which is the source of water for the southern hub Ho Chi Minh city.

The water quality of the rivers and waterways flowing in Bien Hoa is no better than raw wastewater, and the lack of a drainage system means that unsanitary water spills out during flooding, creating public sanitation problems such as bad odours, mosquitoes and flies.

Dong Nai provincial People’s Committee is the executing agency of the project, in which the facilities are expected to be put into service in November 2023./.

Annual interest rate (%) for the project is 0.3, and for consulting services is 0.01. Repayment period is 40 years with a grace period of 10 years.
