Prime Minister Nguyen Xuan Phuc said the root of the programme to build new rural areas is a higher standard of living for local residents, as he visited a new rural commune in the central province of Nghe An on August 15.

In Nam Giang commune of Nam Dan district, he said that this goal should be followed closely and noted that local government agencies must work in the spirit of serving the people.
The prime minister also suggested that every household in Nam Giang should work to keep the rural environment clean and uphold village and family traditions, things that are characteristics of new rural areas, in addition to improving physical infrastructure.
Nam Giang commune was recognised as a new rural area in 2014 and its per capita income reached VND34 million (US$1,530) last year, with the poverty rate at just 3.5% and 100% of the population having access to clean water.
In Nam Giang, Prime Minister Phuc visited farmer Nguyen Tuan Anh’s six-hectare farm on an arid hill where his crop - mainly lemons - earns him up to VND1.2 billion (US$54,000) a year.
Prior to the village visit, the prime minister inspected progress of the Nghe An Vietnam-Singapore Industrial Park (VSIP), the seventh of its kind in Vietnam, with construction launched in September last year.
The park covers a total of 750 hectares, of which 370 hectares are reserved for industrial factories and the rest for urban development.
After being briefed on the project, Prime Minister Phuc urged Nghe An province to accelerate its construction and actively promote the benefits of investing in this industrial park to investors.
He emphasised that VSIP a joint project between Vietnam and Singapore and the Nghe An VSIP should be completed on schedule to mark the 20th anniversary of the first VSIP park in Vietnam.
The same day, Prime Minister Nguyen Xuan Phuc also visited a number of other infrastructure projects in Nghe An province.
