From December 19th, 2025, together with the inauguration of the T2 Passenger Terminal Expansion Project, Noi Bai International Airport will gradually implement the “Smart Airport” model.

Automated Departure Lane
Accordingly, for the first time, international passengers will be able to experience an almost fully automated check-in and departure process in the expanded area, significantly reducing waiting times. (Note: In the existing terminal halls, services will continue to be provided using traditional procedures to ensure flexibility for all categories of passengers).
The journey to experience the “new look” of Terminal T2 begins as soon as passengers enter the check-in area. Right at the terminal entrances, passengers are assisted in accessing smart information through a multifunctional display system. These devices are equipped with touch-screen technology, allowing passengers to quickly look up flight information, locate check-in counters, navigate terminal maps, and find restaurants and other amenities with just a few simple taps.

Modern carry-on baggage screening system
Upon entering the check-in area, instead of queuing at traditional service counters, passengers can proceed directly to the zone equipped with 24 self-service check-in kiosks (at islands A/B and K/L) to select their seats and print boarding passes. Immediately afterward, a system of 24 Self Bag Drop counters enables passengers to independently weigh, print, and attach baggage tags in just moments. The entire process is swift and seamless, allowing passengers to fully manage their time without relying on service staff.
In addition, at the traditional check-in counters, Noi Bai International Airport has installed a biometric identification system for Vietnamese passengers holding chip-enabled passports. The chip passport readers, together with facial biometric recognition devices, connect passengers’ information to the relevant databases, enabling faster and more accurate processing of procedures and thereby enhancing the overall passenger experience.

Security Screening Checkpoint (Veripax 2)
In the security control area, passengers will clearly feel the transformation brought about by a seamless, technology-driven process. At the first touchpoint to the restricted area (Veripax 1), the biometric autogate system uses facial recognition to automatically match data and open the gate within just 1-3 seconds, completely replacing manual checks. Passengers then proceed through the automated departure control gates (Autogate) and undergo a second facial verification (Veripax 2) before entering the security screening area.

The pilot implementation of facial biometric recognition technology at Terminal T2 is regarded as a significant milestone, marking a new step forward in the comprehensive digital transformation of Noi Bai International Airport. This technology helps passengers minimize waiting times, creates a seamless “touchless” journey, and enhances the overall passenger experience at the airport.
In the security screening area, next-generation equipment makes the process smoother and faster:
For baggage: The 920CT 3D computed tomography screening system supports multi-dimensional image analysis, enabling security personnel to inspect baggage without missing any dangerous items.
For passengers: The metal detector combined with a body scanner offers superior processing speed. This system accurately detects objects (both metal and non-metal) concealed on a person, helping staff quickly identify areas requiring inspection. Importantly, the images displayed on the screen are 'neutral avatars,' ensuring maximum privacy and providing passengers with a comfortable and reassuring experience through security.
