Deputy Prime Minister Hoang Trung Hai has required closer co-ordination between local authorities and banks to complete unfinished housing projects and decrease real estate inventories.

The Government official gave the direction at a conference reviewing the operation of the National Steering Committee for Housing Policy and Real Estate Market in 2013 and devising its orientations for 2014.
He also asked for harmonious co-operation among relevant sectors to realise the target of raising the average housing area per capita to 25sq.m by 2020, as set in the Prime Minister-approved National Housing Development Strategy by 2020 with a vision toward 2030.
He stressed that social housing projects should be planned to facilitate people living on medium and low incomes.
Priority should also be given to perfect legal documents related to the development of the housing and real estate market, and to speed up the disbursement of the VND 30 trillion (US$1.5 billion) stimulus package issued to shore up the real estate sector, he added.
According to Minister of Construction Trinh Dinh Dung, the average floor area of housing per person nationwide in 2013 was 19.6sq.m—23.1sq.m in urban areas and 18sq.m in rural areas.
Social housing projects have been effective in balancing housing market demand and supply with a reasonable price for people, helping restore customer confidence in the real estate market.
The real estate market has also shown positive signs of recovery thanks to the launching of credit programmes and offers from the Government and financial institutions.
However, although a number of housing programmes have brought positive results, many others are facing obstacles in processing due to cumbersome administrative procedures.
The investors have not been facilitated with favourable conditions from local authorities while implementing their projects.
