The Southwest Linh Dam social house project’s groundbreaking ceremony

Ha Noi (May 28th, 2013) – Investors of the project building a social housing in the Southwest Linh Dam, including Housing and Urban Development Corporation (HUD) and BIC Vietnam Joint Stock Company, held a groundbreaking ceremony for the so called Social Housing Project Southwest Linh Dam which would be built in 20% out of 49 ha of the Southwest Linh Dam New Urban Project. Minister Trinh Dinh Dung attended, gave a speech and launched the groundbreaking ceremony.

Attending the ceremony, there also were Deputy Minister Nguyen Tran Nam, Vice President of Ha Noi People’s Committee Nguyen Van Suu, representatives from the Governmental Office, the MOC’s functional departments and agencies, Hoang Mai District People’s Committee, leadership of HUD and BIC, reporters and journalists from central and local media agencies.

Opening the ceremony, Mr. Nghiem Van Bang – the Chairman of HUD’s Board of Directors – said the main task of HUD (a state enterprise under the Ministry of Construction) was to invest, develop, manage, exploit urban areas and housing, thereby partly implementing the national strategy developing urban areas and housing, focusing on building house for low and middle income people.

The groundbreaking ceremony

The Social Housing project in Southwest Linh Dam, built in the total land of 2.2 ha, including 6 buildings of 9 to 18 storeys with the total area of 75,815 m2, equal to 1,037 apartments, would be finished in 2015, Mr. Bang said. This project which is built in the Linh Dam Model Urban Area with existing infrastructure (school, hospital, library, parking lot, park…) is expected to partly supply Ha Noi citizens with houses.

At the ceremony, Minister Trinh Dinh Dung highly appreciated HUD, BIC, BIDV and relevant companies and agencies for their efforts in implementing the National Housing Development Strategy to 2020, a vision to 2030, the Resolution No. 2 of the Government, and the coordination program to implement the National Housing Development Strategy between the MOC and Ha Noi Peole’s Committee.

Minister Dung noted investors to optimize their design, focusing on improving building quality and suggesting measures to reduce cost to make social housing cheaper but not less quality than commercial housing. Minister Dung also called enterprises in all economic sectors to focus on the development of social housing because there was a great demand for this type of house, and suggested local leaders to make administrative procedures easier for the conversion of commercial housing projects to social housing ones in accordance with the Government's policy.
