Sponsored by the NDF, the Project Increase capacity and support building action plan to mitigate greenhouse gas in Vietnam’s cement sector (called “the Project” thereafter) which will be implemented in 2 years is now transfering from design stage to consultation stage.
Being one of the strongest growing sectors in Vietnam, cement production consumes much energy and produces much greenhouse gas emission (the main factor causing the environment pollution). It’s vital to mitigate greenhouse gas emission in cement sector to sustainably develop Vietnam.
The conference attendants.
During the conference, Deputy Minister Do Duc Duy informed that through the Project, many experts did research to collect data, realize potential for greenhouse gas emission mitigation in cement factories, identify baseline and develop a measure, report and valuation (MRV) system in accordance with international standards, and work out solutions to build NAMA plan in Vietnam’s cement sector.
According to Mrs. Martina Jargerhorn, Vietnam will be model in reducing greenhouse gas emission in cement production if this Project is implemented effectively. And as a result, Vietnam will attract more foreign investments to further develop the country socio-economically.
As a member of the United Nations Framework Convention on Climate Change (UNFCCC), it’s Vietnam responsibility to reduce greenhouse gas emission in cement sector to reduce negative effects of climate change.
