Urban development with TOD model
On March 5, the Ministry of Construction in collaboration with the Ministry of Land, Infrastructure, Transport and Tourism of Japan (MLIT) organized the workshop "Model of urban development in the transport transit hubs" in Ha Noi. This is an important annual conference with practical significance for the urban development in Vietnam.
The workshop is the open forum for policy makers, investors, experts, scientists in the field of uban development discussion, sharing of practical experience in the model TOD urban development in Japan as well as the ability for application and a selective model in Viet Nam.
According to Mr. Hideo Nakamura of LMIT, the Government should develop urban development plans along with transport development plans. The new routes should be developed along with transport roads and depending on urban scales to chose the appropriate transport system.
In recent years, Vietnam's two big cities of Ha Noi and Ho Chi Minh City are also planning to build TOD model. In Ho Chi Minh city, Nikken Sekkei of Japan has proposed TOD development for the city through enhanced public transport system, especially the neighborhoods connected to the Metro station. Ha Noi also offers connectivity forms of public transport and TOD model according to TOD general planning and Ha Noi transport planning in 2030 with a vision to 2050.
