Over US $80 million for highway safety

Aproject using official development assistance (ODA) to aim at improvingroad safety in the North kick-started on June 8 in the northernprovince of Thái Nguyên.

The US $81 million project funded by the Japanese Government via the Japan International Cooperation Agency (JICA) targets to curb traffic accidents on National Highway 3, the route from Hà Nội to Thái Nguyên.

The route to Thái Nguyên is part of a comprehensive traffic safety project that also includes four national roads and 10 cities and provinces in the region. 

Under the five-and-a-half-year project, traffic lights and signals will be installed, traffic enforcement strengthened, traffic safety education programs held to raise awareness for local residents and road users. 

Besides providing ODA for infrastructure development in Việt Nam, JICA is working closely with Vietnamese partners to conduct technical projects on transport safety./.
