PM approves resettlement plan for Lai Chau power plant

The overall plan on emigration, compensation andresettlement for Lai Chau hydroelectric plant has been recently approvedby Prime Minister Nguyen Tan Dung.

The move targets to back local residents to early stabilise their lives and boost production.

Under the plan, in the short term, 1,331 households with 5,867 inhabitants will be relocated to other places for the construction of the third largest hydroelectric plant in Vietnam.

By 2014, 1,760 households with 7,805 will move to Muong Te suburban district in the northern mountainous province of Lai Chau.

The Government chief also asked his inferiors to carry out the plan on schedule. Accordingly, the first turbine should be put into operation by 2016 and the whole project would be finished by 2017.

The hydroelectric power plant will have a designed capacity of 1,200MW with four turbines. Once putting into operation, it will generate a total output of 4.67 billion kWh per year.
