WB helps improve urban infrastructure in Lao Cai, Phu Ly

The World Bank’s Boards of Directors has approved the financial assistance of US$53 million to upgrade infrastructure in the two emerging cities of Lao Cai and Phu Ly in the northern provinces of Lao Cai and Ha Nam.

The sponsors, allocated for medium-sized urban development projects, will bring benefits for 210,000 local people.

The projects will help upgrade infrastructure in water management and waste water collection, prevent floods and develop transport infrastructure at areas which are not connected with traffic network as well as build six schools.

The improvement of fundamental urban infrastructure projects such as drainage system and traffic roads has helped improve lives of 85,000 populations in these two cities.

Medium-sized urban development projects have proved that the improvement of infrastructure services may bring effects to change community, said WB Country Director in Viet Nam Ousmane Dione.

Water supply and environmental sanitation projects will ensure health for children, he affirmed, adding that community and flood prevention project will increase space and roads will bring economic opportunities for community.
These investments will help local people enjoy better environmental conditions at cities, he added.
