CJV Technical Seminar on “Recent Technologies for Maintenance of Civil Infrastructures”

On 23rd March 2017, at Ha Noi, National University of Civil Engineering (NUCE), Center for Promoting Japan-Vietnam Civil Engineers Collaboration (CJV) and Japan Society of Civil Engineers (JSCE) had organized CJV Technical Seminar “Recent Technologies for Maintenance of Civil Infrastructures”.

Attended to the Seminar, on NUCE side were Prof. Phan Quang Minh, Vice Rector of NUCE; Assoc. Prof. Nguyen Hoang Giang, Director of International Cooperation Department, Director of Vietnam – Japan Institute for Advanced Technology (VJIAT); Assoc. Prof. Vu Hoai Nam, Head of Road Section, Faculty of Road and Bridge; many experts, staff and engineers of Ministries, Units, Institutes and Companies; lecturers and students of universities in Hanoi.

Speaking at the opening Seminar, Prof. Phan Quang Minh, Vice Rector of NUCE emphasized that “This is a good opportunity for Vietnamese and Japanese experts to discuss, exchange and learn each other on the topic of maintenance technologies for civil infrastructures. Experience of Japanese experts will be valuable lessons for Vietnamese experts. Hopefully, participants will gain valuable ideas and good chance for future connection related to the Seminar topics.

Dr. Yukihiro Tsukada, Executive Director of JSCE

According to Dr. Yukihiro Tsukada, Executive Director of JSCE “JSCE wishes to introduce some recently important technologies on maintenance of civil infrastructure of Japan for Viet Nam. Our experts will bring the best experience and knowledge for Vietnamese experts. Hopefully, we will bring benefit for each other”.

Main topics of the Seminar including:

• Advanced technologies for infrastructure maintenance in Japan – Dr. Yukihiro Tsukada, Executive Director, Japan Society of Civil Engineers

• Some problems in surveying and dealing with crackers in concrete surface by PDI manual methodology – Assoc. Prof. Vu Hoai Nam, Head of Road and Bridge Department

• Pavement maintenance and rehabilitation technology – Mr. Hitoshi Fujita, Sakai Heavy Industries, LTD

• Deterioration of Vietnam’s concrete structures – Assoc. Prof. Nguyen Hoang Giang, Director of CJV Vietnam – Japan Institute

After each presentation, there were discussions among participants and presenters to create active atmosphere for the Seminar. Japanese experts were always willing to answer questions from simple to complicated ones. Many Vietnamese experts found very interesting on presentation. Therefore, though in a short time, participants had gained a lot of valuable ideas and benefit related to the Seminar.

Closing to the Seminar, Dr. Phan Huu Duy Quoc, Co-Director of CJV, Shimizu Corporation said “This Seminar is very meaningful for both Vietnam and Japan. Through this, we better understand the role of engineers, designers who need to pay more attention to the maintenance and management of civil infrastructure so that the infrastructure can be extended long life so that it is safe for the users and effective for a country's socio-economic activity. Hopefully in the future, we will continue to have more Seminars similar to this".
