According to Mr. Hai, the world is entering a new era of transforming economic development modals. Water-related challenges have become part of the development history of the mankind and as a pressing global issue today.

In Viet Nam, the socio-economic development process is facing serious challenges on water security. The country heavily relies on international rivers like the Red River and Mekong River as 63% of her water resources (around 830-840 billion m3) come from external territory.

The Vietnamese Government has spared no effort to perfect the legal system and strategies on water resources and strengthen international cooperation especially with other countries in upper reaches to protect, share, and equally exploit water resources. The Deputy PM took the occasion to encourage delegates to propose useful measures in favour of water security especially in the context of serious climate change impacts./.
