Vietnam pavilion has impressed a number of visitors at Milan Expo 2015 thanks to bamboo structures designed by renowned Vietnamese architect, Vo Trong Nghia.
The work consisted of a lotus pond, with a shallow pool of water and a series of towering bamboo structures capped by trees.
Responding to the encompassing theme “Feeding the Planet, Energy for Life”, the Vietnam pavilion show the rapid population growth on the planet and its impact on the environment.
A two-storey exhibition space was positioned at the centre of the pavilion with all sides surrounded by water and framed by 25 bamboo structures of different sizes.
The pool around the pavilion was designed to cool the air, creating a comfortable microclimate for visitors.
Stepping stones in the pool, shaped like lotus leaves, guided visitors towards the entrance while wall screens around the perimeter will fold back on hotter days to bring natural ventilation into the exhibition areas.
After closing the expo on May 4, the design was dismantled and reused for another project; keeping with the environmentally conscious theme.
