PM Nguyen Tan Dung has permitted northern Lao Cai province to hire foreign consultants to map out an urban planning for its Sapa tourist site.

Lao Cai could utilize local budget and mobilize other financial sources from international organizations, domestic and foreign partners to fulfil the task.
The urban planning has to take into account distinctive factors on geography, economics, culture, society, and customs of the site.
The Government leader also allowed the expansion of the Fansipan cable system.
The urban planning for Sapa will include Sapa town and surrounding areas with the Sapa urban centre covering a total area of 363 hectares and having a population of 13,000.
Sapa is a mountainous town that is nested in the Tonkinese Alps of northern Viet Nam, 1,600 meters above sea level. It is 38 kilometers from the train station in Lao Cai city.
Sapa is endowed with charming natural scenery and unique climate with four seasons in a day.
It is not only a national tourist site but also an economic and cultural hub for northwest Viet Nam to the ASEAN region./.
