Memorandum of Understanding signing ceremony research and application of new technology in cement production

Vietnam Institute for Building Materials (VIBM, under the Ministry of Construction) and Thyssenkrupp co., ltd. (Federal Republic of Germany) signed a Memorandum of Understanding on cooperation in scientific research and practical application in cement production on May 11th in presence of Mr. Le Trung Thanh – President of VIBM, Mr. Lukas Schoeneck - General Director of Thyssenkrupp, leaders of units under the Ministry of Construction.

Pham Van Bac – President of Building Materials Department said that at the United Nations Climate Change Conference 2021 (COP26), Vietnam and nearly 150 countries pledged to bring net emissions to zero by the middle of the 21st century. To fulfill this commitment, the cement industry needs to reduce greenhouse gas emissions in the coming time.

President Pham Van Bac believed in cooperation between VIBM and ThyssenKrupp on the basis of the research and practical experience of both sides in the field of building materials, especially cement.

President Le Trung Thanh said that, with the attention and direction of leaders of the Ministry of Construction, VIBM has constantly focused on improving the quality of the Institute's staff and experts, expanding cooperate with domestic and international partners, promoting scientific research and new building materials production including cement, safely and effectively use of energy and natural resources, developing circular economy in cement production.

The signing ceremony is one of event to realize above objectives and goals of the Strategy on Development of Building Materials in Vietnam for the period of 2021 - 2030, with a vision to 2050. 

According to Memorandum of Understanding, VIBM and Thyssenkrupp will promote cooperation in the following areas: research and application of alternative fuel technologies to utilize industrial waste and waste, domestic waste to replace fossil fuels in cement production; research and implement technology of waste gas heat recovery system in clinker production; application of advanced technology solutions to enhance crushing efficiency; research and application of technology to reduce CO2 emissions by replacement of clinker in cement production; research and application of emission reduction technology in the cement production by carbon recovery method; consultation on the formulation of investment projects, design, construction supervision for new investment projects, renovation and upgrading projects; consultation and evaluation measures to treat emissions, inventorying greenhouse gas emissions, making periodical environmental monitoring reports; advice on selection of additives, technological additives for cement.
