Conference Session: Smart urban planning and management in the urbanization and urban development strategy

The Conference “Smart urban planning and management in the urbanization and urban development strategy” was held in Hanoi with the participation of large members of ASEAN smart cities network in both of offline and online on October 22nd. This was one of the seminars within the framework of "ASEAN Smart Cities 2020 Summit & Expo" co-organized by the Ministry of Construction and the Central Economic Committee.

Deputy Minister of Construction Nguyen Tuong Van, Deputy Minister of Public Security Nguyen Van Thanh, Vice Chairman of the People's Committee of Hanoi Nguyen Doan Toan, Vice Chairman of People's Committee of Can Tho City - Chairman of the Association of Cities of Vietnam (ACVN) Vo Hong Anh co-hosted the Conference.

Speaking at the conference, Deputy Minister Nguyen Tuong Van emphasized the important role and inevitable development trend of smart cities. Deputy Minister said, in the draft Vietnam Urban Development Strategy for the period to 2030 and vision to 2050 being submitted to the Prime Minister by the Ministry of Construction, it was clear that smart urban development is an among the key drivers to realize the goal of turning Vietnam into a modern, high-income, industrial country by 2045.

At the seminar, representatives of Metropoli Fundacion, Iskandar Regional Development Agency (Malaysia), Busan Smart Urban Development Board, large Vietnamese corporations such as Vingroup, Ecotek shared many lessons in regional planning and linking the urban system towards smart economic growth and sustainable development with the participation of many sectors in society.

In an online presentation on city resource optimization and planning for economic development and sustainable environment, Ms. Maimunah Jaffar - Iskandar Regional Development Agency (Malaysia) said, Iskandar focused on development of urban services applying high technology to use resources efficiently, building digital infrastructure, database connecting Iskandar with other cities in the country.

Concluding the Conference, Deputy Minister Nguyen Tuong Van thanked delegates for attending the conference, and said that through in-depth discussions, ASEAN Smart Cities Network member countries and cities could draw valuable experiences and lessons in building and developing smart cities.
