Deputy Minister Phan Thi My Linh had a working session with Deputy Minister of Japan Ministry of Land, Infrastructure, Transport, and Tourism (MLIT) – Tsukasa AKIMOTO, on May 11th at MoC’s headquarter.

Deputy Minister Tsukasa AKIMOTO expressed his pleasure in visiting and working with the Ministry of Construction, and said that “Japan has a lot of experience in smart urban development and modern technology ownership in the field of drainage and waste water treatment, and always ready to cooperate and support Vietnam”.

Deputy Minister Tsukasa AKIMOTO said: “Problems of waste water treatment are facing of Vietnam’s cities, especially in the big cities Hanoi and Ho Chi Minh city, due to the rapid growth in population. Therefore, Japan pays attention to assist the MoC in setting up the Vietnam Drainage Training and Development Center to improve the capacity of the Vietnamese water sector. In cooperation with Vietnam, at present, Japanese units have carried out fieldwork and related activities to implement smart urban project in the northern area of Nhat Tan Bridge Hanoi.

Deputy Minister Phan Thi My Linh said that “Vietnam and Japan are looking forward to the 45th anniversary of the establishment of diplomatic relations (1973 - 2018), with many important events being held to affirm the more developed cooperation between the two countries. This is a good opportunity for the MoC and the MLIT to promote the cooperation between the two ministries.

Deputy Minister Phan Thi My Linh highly appreciated the assistance of Japan in helping the MoC to implement the project of capacity improving – the establishment of the Vietnam Drainage Training and Development Center. Two sides need to coordinate in making operational regulations as well as coordination mechanism among the concerned parties.

According to Deputy Minister Phan Thi My Linh, on the basis of a comprehensive cooperation agreement signed in 2015 between the MoC and the MLIT, many specific projects have been implemented by both parties in Vietnam, including the projects on infrastructure, urban development, drainage and wastewater treatment.

To conclude the meeting, Deputy Minister Linh said that “In upcoming time, the Minister of Construction will visit and work in Japan in order to further strengthen the cooperation between the MoC and other agencies under The Government of Japan, including the MLIT”.
