Opening the seminar, Deputy Minister Nguyen Dinh Toan affirmed that “many developing cities, especially the large scale cities in Vietnam are facing same problems how to effectively manage the planning and management of urban construction and development, provide the most efficient technical infrastructure services in service of urban centers, efficiently use of land resources to minimize adverse environmental impacts.
As a result, the application of advantages of information technology and smart city model will create a breakthrough solution in solving problems in cities development in Vietnam.
Deputy Minister Nguyen Dinh Toan hoped the seminar would help the agencies, departments and partners to build and perfect the smart city criterias to suit with conditions in Vietnam; advise the Government in making the policies and mechanisms for the development of resources, investment, management and development cities into smart cities.

Over the past few years, Vietnam and Netherlands have continually strengthened their cooperation in many fields, and Netherlands is ready to support Vietnam in urban development, exchanging of information and experts, transfering technologies especially sharing experiences on successful examples in the areas of urban development, smart cities, airport city and living environment.
The Ambassador of Netherlands Nienke Trooster believed the seminar which continually developed ideas, initiatives, experiences and real acts to contribute to urban development in Vietnam to a new height.

At the seminar, the Urban Development Agency, the Ministry of Construction, and the Alliance of Netherlands Organizations specializing in Smart Cities Development signed the Letter of Intent (LoI) for Smart Cities Development in Vietnam.
