PM Nguyen Tan Dung has signed Decision No. 1065/QĐ-TTg approving the amendments to the construction planning tasks for Ho Chi Minh City Region by 2030, vision to 2050.

Accordingly, the region, comprising HCMC and seven surrounding provinces of Binh Duong, Binh Phuoc, Tay Ninh, Long An, Dong Nai, Ba Ria-Vung Tau and Tien Giang, covers an area of around 30,404 square kilometres, with a population of over 18 million in 2013.
The revised tasks include analysis and assessment on natural and social conditions, geo-political and economic role in the region and the world, urban system, infrastructure, technical system and environment.
Especially, impacts of climate change, sea level rise, flood on the region will be taken into account.
Adjustments will also be made to functional areas, in which, HCMC is the main hub./.
