Lighting for public health and environmental protection

The Department of Technical Infrastructure (Ministry of Construction) coordinated with the Vietnam Lighting Association and the Asian Development Bank to organize the National Lighting Science Conference 2022 with the participant of representatives of central and local state management agencies, leading scientists, representatives of domestic and international businesses operating in the field of lighting on June 14th. The theme of the 2022 Conference is "Lighting for public health and environmental protection towards net zero emissions in Vietnam".

Speaking at the Conference, Assoc. Dr. Mai Thi Lien Huong said that urban lighting is an indispensable component in urban infrastructure technical system which plays important role in ensuring traffic safety, enhancing security order, beautifying the environment, improving urban aesthetics. So far, lighting activities in general and lighting in urban areas in Vietnam in particular have made remarkable progress, ensuring the requirements for lighting performance and increasingly improving energy efficiency, environmental protection.

According to Director General Mai Thi Lien Huong, Vietnam Lighting Association has significantly contributed to in the development of the lighting industry. The development of Vietnam's lighting industry in recent years has also received important contributions from international organizations, notably the Asian Development Bank, the Japanese Ministry of Economy, Trade and Industry, and Japanese Association of lighting equipment manufacturers… The cooperation with international organizations has contributed to promoting the development of science and technology, accumulating international experience in the field of lighting in Vietnam.

Director Mai Thi Lien Huong emphasized, in order to further improve lighting efficiency, saving energy, protecting the environment, and performing assigned tasks in the field of urban lighting management, the Ministry of Construction will propose the Government and the Prime Minister to adjust Decree No. 79/2009/ND- CP on Urban Lighting Management and Vietnam's urban lighting development orientation to 2025 in suitable with new situation.

Thanking domestic and international organizations and partners for supporting the Ministry of Construction and the Vietnam Lighting Association, Director Mai Thi Lien Huong said that the Ministry of Construction as well as the Vietnam Lighting Association desired to continually receive the attention, cooperation and support of domestic and foreign partners in implementing the goal of lighting for public health and environmental protection towards net zero emissions in Vietnam.


The whole Conference

According to information from the Conference Organizing Committee, in November 2021, Prime Minister Pham Minh Chinh gave an important speech at the Global Climate Summit - COP26 taking place in Glasgow, Scotland, United Kingdom to highlight Vietnam's strong commitments in responding to climate change. The Prime Minister affirmed that Vietnam will strongly develop and implement measures to reduce greenhouse gas emissions with its own resources along with the cooperation and support of the international community, especially developed countries, both finance and technology transferring, including mechanisms under the Paris Agreement, to achieve net-zero emissions by 2050. The 2022 National Lighting Conference aims to contribute to the implementation step by step this agreement.

In addition, the Conference aims to create an international and national level scientific forum, prestigious in the field of lighting. The Conference is an opportunity for domestic and foreign scientists to introduce research results; exchange experiences, ideas and especially advanced technology in the field of urban lighting.

Within the framework of the Conference, the delegates visited some of the latest lighting products exhibition booths of enterprises from Japan and Vietnam.
