Conclusion Ceremony “Energy Efficiency Promotion in Construction Sector Project”

Hanoi (June 20th, 2017), the Ministry of Construction (MoC), in collaboration with the United States Agency for International Development (USAID) in Vietnam held the Conclusion Ceremony “Energy Efficiency Promotion in Construction Sector Project” the part of “The USAID Vietnam Clean Energy Program” (VCEP). There were the Deputy Minister of Construction - Ms Phan Thi My Linh, the director of USAID Vietnam - Mr Michael Greene, Deputy Director of Department of Science, Technology and Environment – National Director of VCEP project –Mr Nguyen Cong Thinh at the Ceremony.

The VCEP funded by the USAID and has closely coordinated with the MoC and Winrock International to implement the works under the project, particularly in five major cities including Hanoi, Hochiminh, Hai Phong, Da Nang and Can Tho from 2014 to 2017. The project aims to save energy, reduce greenhouse gas emissions and promote energy saving activities.

At the Ceremony, Deputy Minister Phan Thi My Linh highly appreciated the results and products of the VCEP have significantly contributed to the implementation of activities to promote the safe and effective use of energy for construction works in Vietnam.

Notably, thanks to support received by the project, in May 2017, the MoC issued an action plan on Green Growth by 2020, with orientation to 2030.

Mr Nguyen Thanh Xuyen – the representation of Hochiminh city Department of Construction said, after three years of implementation of the agreements signed with the VCEP project and Winrock International, the project has helped the HCMC Department of Construction in strenthening its capacity to carry out design and acceptance tests QCVN 09:2013/BXD, which would focus on the topic of “Construction management, embellishment and urban development of HCMC”- the preparatory workshop for the National Science Workshop “HCMC planning – architecture – building management towards sustainable development during period of 2016 – 2020 and vision to 2030”.

Ms Vu Thi Kim Thoa – The head of the USAID Vietnam Clean Energy Program consultancy team said, after three years of implementation, the VCEP has achieved many important results, such as collecting, analysing and making of works performance database of 280 works in 3 typical climate zones in Vietnam.

The project has co-operated with the MoC to study and develop the Green Growth Action Plan in construction sector, which aimes to reduce greenhouse gas emission by 8 – 10% by 2020 and reduce energy consumption on GDP unit by 1 – 1,5% per year according to the National Green Growth Strategy, communication and project introduction.

To conclusion the ceremony, Mr Nguyen Cong Thinh thanked USAID sponser, Winrock International consultant and relevant agencies for positive coordination with the MoC to fastly and effectively implement the project. Mr Nguyen Cong Thinh suggested the USAID, the Winrock International in close collaboration with the VCEP project management board, the Department of Science, Technology and Environment and relevant agencies on the Vietnamese side to handover documents, products and results of the project aiming to popularity, using and further researching and developing in the coming time.
