Within the context of Cuba’s economic reforms and implementing the cooperation agreements of the Memorandum of the 33rd Session of Vietnam - Cuba Intergovernmental Committee, a delegation from the Ministry of Construction (MOC) led by its Deputy Minister Le Quang Hung paid a working visit to Cuba, from April 2 to 6/4/2016, with the aim of promoting cooperation on economy, trade and investment between the two countries.

During the visit, Deputy Minister Hung had a working sesssion with Cuban Minister of Construction to discuss the implementation of cooperation agreements and contents of cooperation in coming period. At the session, the CEO of Viglacera Corporation (Viglacera) and Chairman of Cuba Geicon (Geicon) reported on the establishment of a joint venture company producing ceramic tiles and sanitary wares in the provinces of San Jose and Santa Cruz Province of Cuba. Two officials asked Viglacera and Geicon to soon complete legal procedures for signing agreements of establishing a joint venture company at the 34th Session of Vietnam - Cuba Intergovernment Committee in Cuba in the last quarter 2016 and supplying products of sanitary ware, ceramic tiles to Cuba market in the first quarter 2017. On the occasion, Viglacera and Geicon also discussed possibilities of investment cooperation to build new glass and sanitaryware factories in Special economic zone Mariel in Cuba. Two officials also witnessed the signing of an agreement on establishing a joint venture between Viglacera and Geicon and agreement on importing and exporting building materials between Viglacera and Cuba’s IMECO company.

The delegation held a meeting with Cuban Deputy Minister of Tourism, during which they discussed the investment cooperation opportunities, the demands in buiding and upgrading hotels in Cuba. They also reviewed the proposals on investment projects between Vietnamese Hanel JSC and its parner Cubanacan as well as a cooperation agreement between Viglacera Corporation and Gran Caribe group.
The officials from MOC also worked with the Cuban Ministry of Foreign Trade and Investment (MINCEX) to review the implementation of agreements that were signed ai the meeting of the 33rd Vietnam - Cuba Intergovernment Committee. At the meeting, both sides agreed on the agenda to boost Vietnamese investment projects in Cuba.

In particular, in the business trip, the MOC delegation attented the International Construction Exhibiton Fair 2016 (FECONS 2016) and the Opening Ceremony of the Viglacera Showroom in La Havana capital. This was the first time the MOC participated in the fair with stands displaying products from Viglacera such as sanitary ware, ceramic tiles, construction glass and accessories. /.
