Opening ceremony of the 33rd session of Vietnam - Cuba Intergovernment Commission

Hanoi (November 16th, 2015) – The Vietnam - Cuba Intergovernment Commission opened its 33rd session which was regarded as an important cooperation between the two governments on economy, culture, education, science and technology.

Minister Trinh Dinh Dung discussed with Minister Rodrigo Malmierca Diaz at the Opening Ceremony.

On one side, there were Minister Trinh Dinh Dung, Deputy Minister Le Quang Hung, representative of the Government Office, relevant Minitries and Vietnamese enterprises. On the other side, there were Minister Rodrigo Malmierca Diaz of Foreign Trade and Foreign Investment (co-president of the Vietnam - Cuba Intergoverment Commission), representatives of Cuban National Bank, relevant Ministries and Cuban enterprises.

There were many important events in 2015 to mark 55 years establishing the formal diplomatic relationship between the two countries, such as the formal visit of the President Truong Tan Sang to Cuba in September, the formal visit of the Vietnamese Ministry of National Defence’s mission led by General Do Ba Ty (Deputy Minister of the Ministry of National Defence) to Cuba, the seminar “55 years of cooperating and uniting between Vietnam and Cuba” in September…

At the opening ceremony, Minister Trinh Dinh Dung highly appreciated joint effort of the two countries in investment, construction and communication. Enterprises from Vietnam and Cuba have shared information and experience, signed many agreements such as: Agreement between Hanel and Cubanacan Coporation to build a 5-star hotel in La Habana Capital, Agreement between Viglacera and Cuban construction companies to upgrade 2 building materials manufacturers in Cuba… Minister Dung asked experts from the two sides to discuss and review their achievements, propose cooperation solutions in the period of 2015 – 2016. Minister Dung believed the present economic and political situation in Cuba would further enhance Vietnam - Cuba relationship in many fields.

Minister Rodrigo Malmierca Diaz thanked Minister Dung for his warm welcome, and confirmed this 33rd session as a positive way to boost Vietnam - Cuba mutal relationship. Minister Diaz said the visit of President Truong Tan Sang to Cuba in September opened many cooperation chances for enterprises from both sides. Cuba chose Vietnam as the first country to introduce their new investment policy and list of projects attracting investment to Cuba.

After this opening ceremony, experts from Vietnam and Cuba will discuss about contents of the program cooperating between the two countries in the future.
