Opening the conference, Minister Trinh Dinh Dung asserted urban development as core activity in construction sector. As a special city not only in Vietnam but also in the Asia Pacific region, HCMC has an important role in perfecting the socialism-driven market economy and integrating into global economy. The city socio-economic infrastructure has been paid much attention, the urban space has been expanded, many buildings have been developed… However, HCMC is facing some challenges as a result of rapid urbanization, such as traffic jam, environmental pollution, inundation. Therefore, it’s necessary to link the development in HCMC region.
According to Minister Dung, the MOC closely worked with the HCMC in particular and the HCMC region in general to complete the HCMC region planning. The infrastructure linking, the potential and competitiveness sharing would support for the region’s sustainable development, said Minister Dung.
“HCMC needs to do planning better, work out comprehensive solution to mobilize domestic and foreign investment, develop urban infrastructure, deal with traffic jam and inundation, further manage and protect environment, actively adapt to climate change and sea level rise, focus on housing development, especially social housing”, Minister Dung asked.
In addition, Minister Dung highly appreciated HCMC People’s Committee and the Vietnam Urban Planning and Development Association for orginising the conference “Manage the planning – architecture in HCMC” on the occasion of Vietnam Urban Day November 8th.
In this conference, Minister Dung awarded Medal for the cause of the Construction Industry to some HCMC’s previous leaders.
