Workshop "Promoting green and sustainable construction - World experience and proposed solutions for Vietnam"

On August 22, 2023, the Department of Science, Technology and Environment (Ministry of Construction) in collaboration with the Vietnam College of Urban Works Construction and the Vietnam Green Building Council held a seminar "Promoting green and sustainable construction  - World experience and proposed solutions for Vietnam” with the attention of leaders of units under the Ministry of Construction, representatives of research institutes, universities and experts from domestic and international organizations.

Mr. Nguyen Cong Thinh - Deputy Director of the Department of Science, Technology and Environment said that the goal of the Workshop was to deploy and implement activities to use energy efficiently, develop green buildings and promote green and sustainable construction. In particular, the workshop will be more meaningful when held at the Center for Research, Application Training and Transfer of Green Construction Technology  in Vietnam, under the College of Urban Works Construction.

Deputy Director General Nguyen Cong Thinh expressed that this workshop will opening up many activities to promote green buildings development in Vietnam and the Center for Research, Application Training and Transfer of Green Construction Technology in Vietnam will become a center for training activities, conferences, seminars, promotional events on green buildings in Vietnam, especially in the context that the Ministry of Construction will chair and organize Vietnam Green Building Week in 2023.

According to Deputy Director General Nguyen Cong Thinh, promoting green and sustainable construction requires the synchronous and drastic participation of many levels and sectors. Therefore, the Ministry of Construction is ready to coordinate and create conditions for universities in organizing programs, events, conferences, seminars, talks and forums to convey contents related to green buildings into the school environment; creating conditions for students to familialize with and understand the principles and meanings of green buildings for the sustainable development of the construction industry in particular and Vietnam in general.

Speaking at the workshop, Mr. Trinh Van Dung - Headmaster of the College of Urban Works Construction said that the project of the Center for Research, Application Training and Transfer of Green Construction Technology in Vietnam was designed and built according to international standards and suitable with the regulations and standards of Vietnam. This is also the first pilot project in Vietnam to apply most of the technological solutions for energy saving and air quality treatment in the building. The project has been putting into use since January 2022. Up to now, the school has arranged working areas, laboratories, practice; compiled documents and built documentary films to introduce the project, and organized many training courses, visit and experience for lecturers and students of the school and a number of universities and colleges in Hanoi city.

Nguyen Trung Kien - Vice President of IBPSA Vietnam, Director of VILANDCO added that the Center for Research, Application Training and Transfer of Green Construction Technology in Vietnam is obtained the LOTUS NC V3.0 Certification. - Yellow. The building is built of unburnt bricks, using rooftop solar power. From the design stage, the architects have used natural light, green space, and sunshading solutions.  Green elements are included in many different technical items and are connected to school facilities and public transport. In particular, the BIM model is used in the design and operation of the building.

At the workshop, managers, experts, researchers and representatives of consulting and design units exchanged and discussed many contents on promoting green and sustainable construction in Vietnam and solutions and technologies applied at the Center for Research, Application Training and Transfer of Green Construction Technology  in Vietnam.
