The Academy of Managers for Construction and Cities (AMC) held a second workshop on Social Housing with the theme - Planning, architecture and housing building technology suitable with affordability on June 16th. Many representatives of professional associations, universities, enterprises inside and outside the construction industry, domestic and international experts attended the workshop.

Speaking to open the workshop, Assoc Professor. Dr. Nguyen Vu Phuong - Deputy Director of AMC said that social housing development was a great mattern which Party, State and Government have paid attention to. Ministry of Construction was assigned to implement the 01 million social housing development project, meeting the requirements for low-income people.
After the success of the first workshop with the theme “Housing development forum towards inclusive, multi-dimensional and sustainable architecture”, the organizing committee hopes that, this sencond workshop will receive many contributions, ideas and solutions from experts, managers and speakers to promote the development of social housing in accordance with the set goals.

At the workshop, Dr. Kapil Chaudhery (Smart Cities solution expert - Urban planning and climate resilience) presented lessons from India's experience on social housing. The Government of India has a lot of policies and projects for social housing, and commits to improve living standards for people, focus on urban and rural social housing. The social housing project has its own policies to improve women's rights. If homeless have no home, no money, the government will cover their costs and lend at low interest rates. For social housing in urban areas, the Government pays 60%, locality pays 40%. For rural social housing, the Government pays 90%, locality pays 10%. This policy is extended until the end of 2024. India has built 10 million social houses with about 1000 USD for 1 social house. Currently, India is applying the method of combining construction of social housing with commercial housing.
Dr Tran Ba Viet spoke at the workshop
At the workshop, Dr. Tran Ba Viet - Vice Chairman of Vietnam Association of Building Materials, member of American Concrete Association; Head of TCVN 71 - Concrete & BTCT - STAMEQ shared solutions for building houses with prefabricated method applied in Vietnam. Accordingly, since the 1980s, the method of large slab concrete assembly has been presenting in our country, which is a great step forward in the industrialization of housing construction, especially social housing.
Technological solutions for social housing must be suitable with current Vietnamese conditions, local conditions, living habits of Vietnamese families; low cost and fast in construction time.

As expected, the third workshop with theme “Social housing prospects: A structured circular approach that promotes the ecological and economic feasibility of affordable housing” will be organized by AMC at the end of August 2023.
