The Ministry of Construction works with the Swiss Federal Economic Directorate and the German Development Cooperation

On June 24, 2022, the Ministry of Construction worked with the State Secretariat for Economic Affairs (SECO) and the German Development Cooperation Organization (GIZ) on strengthening cooperation among the parties.

At the meeting, Ms. Barbara Buser - Director of Infrastructure Projects Management Board, SECO in Switzerland expressed her pleasure to join the delegation to visit and work at the Ministry of Construction, and emphasized the interest to further expand the cooperation relationship between SECO and the Ministry of Construction in the coming time, especially cooperation in infrastructure development in the Mekong Delta region.

Mr. Oemar Idoe - Group Coordinator of GIZ's projects on environment, climate change and agriculture in Vietnam also desired to cooperate and improve the coordination capacity of functional departments under Vietnam’s government both horizontally and vertically, with special emphasis on the Mekong Delta.

Thanking SECO and GIZ for paying much attention, support and cooperation with the Ministry of Construction in recent years, Deputy Minister Bui Hong Minh also emphasized the special importance of the Mekong Delta in providing food not only for Vietnam but also for the whole world. However, at present, the Mekong Delta is facing many challenges due to climate change, sea level rise, saline intrusion. Therefore, Deputy Minister Bui Hong Minh proposed that SECO and GIZ need to develop a specific work program with units under the Ministry of Construction; identifying important contents, prioritizing cooperation, focusing on improving climate change adaptability for cities; planning, architecture, and infrastructure development in the Mekong Delta. This cooperation should to be implemented soon to bring benefits to the people in the region.

At the meeting, Director of Architectural Planning Department Tran Thu Hang, Director of Technical Infrastructure Department Mai Thi Lien Huong raised a number of important contents that the Ministry of Construction wishes to expand cooperation in the near future, including: develop an action plan of the Ministry of Construction to implement Resolution No. 13-NQ/TW dated April 2, 2022 of the 13th Politburo "On the direction of socio-economic development, ensuring national defense, security in the Mekong Delta until 2030, with a vision to 2045"; review and evaluate the program to build clusters of residential and houses in flooded areas and areas affected by landslides; review and assess the potential for island urban development in the Mekong Delta region; study thematic contents as a basis for policy formulation in the Law on Urban and Rural Planning, Law on Water Supply and Drainage, Law on Urban Development Management.
