Deputy Minister Nguyen Tuong Van chaired an online meeting with the 2020 Program Delegation (CPM 2020) of the Asian Development Bank (ADB) on May 21st, 2020. There were Mr. Eric Sidgwick - Country Director, ADB VRM and experts, members of the ADB Program Group; representatives of functional departments and agencies under MoC at the meeting.

The whole meeting
At the meeting, the two sides informed and discussed on specific issues such as: Opportunities for cooperation between ADB and MOC in the Working Group on Urban Development of Mekong sub-region countries; activities relating to ongoing Technical Assistance (TA 9002 - Adaptive and Sustainable Urban Development); establishment of the ASEAN – AUSTRALIA Smart Cities Trust Fund.
Deputy Minister Nguyen Tuong Van said that Vietnam was working hard to implement the project "Sustainable Smart Urban Development of Vietnam for the period of 2018 - 2025 with orientation to 2030 which was approved by the Prime Minister in Decision No. 950 / QD-TTg dated August 1, 2018. The MoC is a standing agency of this Project and has been coordinating with ministries, branches and localities to effective and timely implement the Scheme's contents and tasks.
In 2020, Vietnam will assume the role of Chairman of the ASEAN Smart Urban Network (ASCN); the Ministry of Construction is a standing agency to coordinate with ministries and branches in the implementation of the ASCN Network Annual Meeting 2020 in Vietnam with the participation of representatives of 10 member countries and 26 member cities of ASCN Network. Vietnam has 3 cities that participate in ASCN Network: Hanoi, Da Nang and Ho Chi Minh City.
Deputy Minister Nguyen Tuong Van said that Vietnam was developing institutions for smart city planning and wanted to receive supports from ADB.
Regarding the Project, Ministry of Construction is implementing with ADB, TA 9002-VIE Technical Assistance Project "Adaptive and Sustainable Urban Development" funded by ADB’s non-refundable. Deputy Minister Nguyen Tuong Van suggested that “the ADB sends a report of project completion in August 2020 to the Ministry of Construction as a basis to report to the Prime Minister about the project”.
At the meeting, Mr. Eric Sidgwick - Country Director, ADB VRM informed that: “the Mekong River Sub-Urban Development Working Group plans to hold 2 online meetings in July and December 2020 and look forward to the cooperation of the Ministry of Construction of Vietnam in these meetings”.
Also at the meeting, Deputy Minister Nguyen Tuong Van invited Mr Eric Sidgwick and ADB leaders to attend the ASCN 2020 Conference scheduled to be held in July in Vietnam.
