The International Conference on building materials science and technology of Building materials for sustainable development organized by the Institute for Building Materials to celebrate the 50th anniversary of the Institute’s establishment (4/11/1969 – 4/11/2019). There were Deputy Minister of Construction Nguyen Van Sinh, Chief Representative of United Nations Development Program (UNDP) in Viet Nam Caitlin Wiesen; representatives of Asian embassies; representatives from ministries, central branches, experts, domestic and international businesses at the Conference.

Building materials industry has had a strong development in recent years, making an important contribution to the industrialization and modernization of the country. At the moment, Vietnam has more than 80 cement production lines applying advanced technology from European and regional countries, with a total design capacity of more than 100 million tons / year. Ceramic titles are also invested with hundreds of equipment lines to bring up the total capacity to 750 million m2 of products/year which turn Vietnam to one of the top five producing ceramic tiles in the world.

Deputy minister Nguyen Van Sinh highly appreciated the collaboration between the Institute for Building Materials with domestic and foreign units to organize the Seminar to create opportunities for exchanging, learning international experiences, innovating science and technology to create intelligent materials to meet domestic demand especially in the era of industrial revolution 4.0, applying artificial intelligence, promoting smart urban development.

Chief Representative of (UNDP) Caitlin Wiesen congratulated the Institute for Building Materials for achievements and contributions to the development of Vietnam for 50 years, and said, UNDP has effectively coordinated with ministries, central branches and localities of Vietnam, including the Ministry of Construction, the Ministry of Science and Technology, to deploy many programs and projects towards sustainable development, reducing greenhouse gas emissions, environmental protection, improving the quality of life.

Ms. Caitlin Wiesen highly appreciated the attention of the Government of Vietnam and the Ministry of Construction in promoting sustainable development of the construction materials industry through researching and promulgating guidelines and policies to encourage and facilitate development unburnt construction materials, energy saving, reusing industrial wastes.

Concluding the conference, Dr. Le Trung Thanh, Director General of the Vietnam Institute for Building Materials thanked Deputy Minister Nguyen Van Sinh, Ms Caitlin Wiesen and numerous delegates, guests for attending the Conference and said, in 3 days of the Conference (October 31 - November 2, 2019), domestic and international experts and scientists would discuss practical and specific contents prepared by the Organizing Committee to provide ideas, programs and solutions on developing smart, new and environmentally friendly materials with modern technology, energy and natural resources saving, aiming to sustainable development of Vietnam Construction industry.
