The Vietnam Construction Environment Association held a Workshop “Indoor air quality standards for residential and public buildings in Vietnam” on December 19th with the participation of leaders of the Department of Science, Technology and Environment (Ministry of Construction); experts from construction and medical associations; lecturers of universities; experts from Panasonic Group and many domestic and international delegates, aiming to consult experts in improving the quality and complete the content of the draft TCVN “Indoor air quality standards for residential and public buildings – design standards”.

Prof.Dr.Sc. Pham Ngoc Dang presented the draft of the Standard

Prof.Dr.Sc. Pham Ngoc Dang (leader of the TCVN “Indoor air quality standards for residential and public buildings – design standards”) said: “This standard applies to all residential and public buildings (including housing types, office buildings and schools) use of climate control equipment. The standard considers environmental factors such as temperature, physics, chemistry, and biology; does not take into account the factors of lighting, noise, magnetic fields and radon, and psychosocial factors. During the compilation process, the research group has researched and referenced some indoor air quality standards of advanced countries in the world such as the US, Singapore, ISO standards.

Prof.Dr.Sc. Pham Ngoc Dang emphasized regulations to ensure air quality, indoor air quality parameters and instructions to ensure indoor air quality parameters, steps to monitor indoor air quality, measure indoor air quality. In particular, the group of subjects studied, identified and included in the draft standard 17 indoor air quality parameters (including 4 parameters of thermal comfort, 11 parameters of air pollution, 2 parameters of dust).

The whole workshop

Attending the seminar, experts appreciated the effort and responsibility of the topic group in the process of developing the draft standard, and agreed on: “the development of TCVN: “Indoor air quality standards for residential and public buildings – design standards” is an important step for Vietnam to approach and integrate internationally in the field of building standards for indoor air quality assurance”.

In order to improve the quality of the draft standard, experts and participants in the workshop contributed many ideas such as: considering editing the standard name to TCVN “Air quality in residential and public buildings - General requirements"; additional regulations on lead dust content in the air; considering and incorporating into the standard of radon gas elements in the application scope of the topic; standards should also apply to residential and public housing using natural ventilation. Some experts also raised regulations of advanced countries in the world relating to indoor air quality to comment on the draft standard in ensuring a more integrated international standard.

Prof.Dr. Nguyen Huu Dung - Chairman of VACEE spoke at the workshop.

At the end of the workshop, Prof.Dr. Nguyen Huu Dung - President of VACEE, Prof.Dr.Sc. Pham Ngoc Dang thanked domestic and international experts and delegates for attending the workshop and contributed many valid comments. VACEE and the group of subjects would consider requirements to supplement, modify and complete the draft TCVN "Indoor air quality standards for residential and public buildings – design standards”, and also take steps followed by TCVN construction regulations.
