Politburo member Dinh The Huynh has urged Vietnamese architects to pay attention to the current social situation in order to design more high-quality projects meeting the demands of the country’s socio-economic development.

Politburo member Huynh, who is also Secretary of the Party Central Committee (PCC) and Head of PCC Commission for Communication and Education, made the request at the closing ceremony of the Vietnam Architects Association’s (VAA) ninth national congress in Hanoi on April 21.
He asked the VAA to attach importance to developing and training human resources, particularly among young members.
The association was also requested to be an active consultant to local authorities and architectural and planning agencies in conducting researches and promulgating legal documents on improving the working conditions of architects and protecting their interests and obligations.
Delegates at the three-day congress elected a new executive committee for the association in the 2015 – 2020 tenure and architect Nguyen Tan Van was reelected as chairman.
An exhibition of best entries and awards ceremony of the 2014 Vietnam Architecture Awards were held as part of the event. Ten outstanding architects were also honoured for excellent works in the 2010-2015 tenure on the occasion of the ceremony.
According to a VAA report reviewing its operation in the 2010-2015 tenure, the association has over 5,700 members to date, 70% of them are young architects. Over the past five years, despite difficulties in the national economy and real estate market, Vietnamese architects have made significant efforts and contributions to remodeling the country’s distinctive architecture.
The VAA has paid great attention to preserving and promoting architectural heritage and urban planning. Green architecture has become a new trend of Vietnam’s modern architecture, with many buildings that have been constructed in this style winning prizes in international competitions and at home.
