All Airbus A320 and A321 aircraft in operation by Vietnamese airlines have completed the ELAC computer control software update, which the aircraft manufacturer Airbus and the European Aviation Safety Agency (EASA) required to be completed by 06:59 on November 30th.
Therefore, the operations of Vietnam Airlines and Vietjet have returned to normal and are no longer affected by the urgent software update order from EASA and the aircraft manufacturer Airbus.
Immediately after receiving information from Airbus and instructions from the Civil Aviation Authority of Vietnam at midnight on November 28th, airlines immediately activated the technical process, synchronously implementing software updates for affected Airbus aircraft at three main technical centers: Noi Bai, Da Nang and Tan Son Nhat.
The process was carried out quickly, with all the necessary tools, software, and instructions from the manufacturer, along with close coordination among the technical, operations, and flight management departments, enabling the requirements to be completed ahead of schedule and minimizing any impact on the flight schedule.
From November 30th onward, airline operations have been proceeding normally and fully comply with the safety standards of the Civil Aviation Authority of Vietnam.
Uong Viet Dung, Director General of the Civil Aviation Authority of Vietnam, stated that the software update for a large number of Airbus aircraft was implemented proactively by Vietnamese airlines with a serious and highly responsible approach. This ensured the maintenance of flight schedules, accelerated the execution of the manufacturer’s and EASA’s directives, and provided timely information and support policies for affected passengers.
Notably, Vietnamese airlines demonstrated a strong spirit of solidarity and effective mutual support, in full accordance with the guidance of the Civil Aviation Authority of Vietnam.
During the implementation process, due to force majeure, some flights had to be rescheduled compared to the original timetable. The Civil Aviation Authority of Vietnam and the airlines thank passengers for their understanding, support, and encouragement.
