Surveillance cameras are installed in expressways belonging to the intelligent traffic system (ITS), and weighing stations to control the load to prevent overloaded vehicles from entering the expressway, causing traffic insecurity. Image data will be transmitted to the Monitoring Center to manage and strictly handle vehicles violating the expressway.

A camera tower has just been installed on the Phan Thiet - Dau Giay expressway through Dong Nai province.
Along the Dau Giay - Phan Thiet and Phan Thiet - Vinh Hao expressways, many locations have been installed with surveillance cameras. On average, about 1km of traffic surveillance camera towers will be installed. Solar panels, wind power generation, and underground cables will be installed at the towers to transmit data to the Traffic Control Centers.

Workers install equipment at the Ba Bau intersection toll station, Phan Thiet - Dau Giay Expressway.
According to the Phan Thiet - Dau Giay Expressway Management Board, the camera installation items have been basically completed. There are 51 locations for traffic surveillance cameras on the route. Currently, the contractor is completing the equipment installation.
At intersection locations such as: QL56, QL1 (Xuan Loc commune), DT720, QL55 and Ba Bau intersection, automatic weighing stations and non-stop toll collection systems (ETC) are installed.
"After completing the installation of equipment, transmission lines and software, a trial operation will be conducted. At the end of November 2025, the system will be simultaneously tested at the Phan Thiet - Dau Giay, Vinh Hao - Phan Thiet, Mai Son - QL45, QL45 - Nghi Son projects," a representative of the Expressway Management Board said.

A camera tower has been completely installed on the Vinh Hao - Phan Thiet Expressway.
According to the Vinh Hao - Phan Thiet Expressway Management Board, there are 43 camera towers along the route. Currently, the contractor has completed the installation of transmission cables, towers, solar panels, and wind power.
In addition, the vehicle load control weighing equipment will be installed at intersections, including 9 scales at the branches leading to and from Ba Bau, Ma Lam, Dai Ninh, and Vinh Hao intersections.
Mr. Dinh Van Tinh, the officer in charge of the bidding package of Project Management Board 7, added that the vehicle load control system includes an automatic scale and a surveillance camera. After detecting signs of overloading, the vehicle will transmit data to the Monitoring Center to check and monitor the vehicle load on the road or issue a fine.
"According to the November plan, we will check (single-active acceptance) and then accept the entire route (interactive), complete the bidding package and put it into the traffic monitoring and control system and vehicle load control on the highway," Mr. Tinh said.
Replication on expressways
According to traffic experts, it is necessary to replicate the model of installing weighing stations and traffic surveillance cameras to modernize and better control traffic on expressways. It is necessary to add the installation of camera systems, automatic weighing stations, and non-stop toll collection (ETC) on the North-South expressways.
Vehicles after pass through the automatic weighing system will be notified of violations on electronic signs (VMS) displaying license plates... and asked to exit the expressway. At the same time, data will be transmitted to the Traffic Monitoring Center for fines.
Monitoring overloaded vehicles with automatic scales will help prevent overloaded vehicles entering the highway, thereby causing damage and rapid deterioration of expressway routes.
Mr. Nguyen The Hong Trung, Director of the Department of Construction of Dong Thap province said, to monitor traffic on the Cao Lanh - An Huu highway, the Provincial People's Committee recently proposed that the Central Government added 358 billion VND to invest in intelligent traffic operation software (ITS), non-stop toll stations and weighing stations at the Cao Lanh - An Huu highway project phase 1 under implementation.
According to Mr. Nguyen Van Thanh, Director of Road Management Area IV, after being put into operation, data will be transmitted to the Traffic Monitoring Center to manage and monitor traffic on the expressway.
Data, information and images via surveillance cameras and vehicle load checks will be integrated with functional forces to manage and "fine" violations when detected.
"Currently, many expressways are simultaneously deploying intelligent traffic monitoring systems (ITS) and installing automatic scales. The expressway expansion projects on the Ho Chi Minh City - Trung Luong and Trung Luong - My Thuan sections will include ITS components and automatic weighing systems to synchronize traffic management," Mr. Thanh said.
