Deputy Minister Nguyen Danh Huy received the Chairman of the Korean Urban Transport Commission

On November 27th, 2025, in Hanoi, Deputy Minister of Construction Nguyen Danh Huy received and worked with Chairman of the Korean Urban Transport Commission Kim Yong-Seok, to exchange experiences in urban transport development, especially urban railways, and discuss cooperation orientations in the coming time.

At the meeting, Mr. Kim Yong-Seok stated that South Korea has 50 years of experience in developing urban railways, possesses a complete system of standards and technical regulations, and has locomotive and rolling stock manufacturing technology with a high rate of localization.

According to Mr. Kim Yong-Seok, developing a system of standards and technical regulations for urban railways will help Vietnam take the initiative in developing modern transport infrastructure, thereby enhancing the competitiveness of its economy. South Korea is committed to supporting Vietnam throughout the entire process from design, construction, and operation to mobilizing capital for urban railway projects.

Speaking at the meeting, Deputy Minister Nguyễn Danh Huy stated that South Korea is currently the second-largest bilateral donor to Vietnam’s transport sector. In 2025, the two sides have maintained numerous high-level exchange activities; notably, Vietnam’s Ministry of Construction and South Korea’s Ministry of Land, Infrastructure and Transport (MoLIT) signed a Memorandum of Understanding on railway cooperation in March 2025, creating a broader framework for collaboration in the fields of high-speed rail and urban railways.

According to Huy, Vietnam is currently in a favorable phase to promote integrated transport models and develop smart cities. Therefore, the Ministry of Construction welcomes the participation of Korean agencies, organizations, and enterprises in building modern, sustainable, and highly connected urban areas, thereby contributing to socio-economic development and improving the quality of life for the Vietnamese people.

Deputy Minister Nguyễn Danh Huy asked South Korea to accompany Vietnam in sharing experience, training, and technology transfer in high-speed rail, the railway industry, and smart cities. Regarding the Railway Cooperation Conference, he stated that the two sides are coordinating to organize it in early 2026 in accordance with the signed Memorandum of Understanding, and would consider integrating urban railway cooperation into the agenda.

At the conclusion of the meeting, Deputy Minister Nguyễn Danh Huy and Chairman of the Korea Urban Transport Committee Kim Yong-Seok expressed their confidence that cooperation between the two sides in the fields of transportation and construction especially urban railways will continue to be implemented effectively, contributing to strengthening the Comprehensive Strategic Partnership between Vietnam and South Korea.
