On November 24th, Deputy Minister of Construction Nguyen Danh Huy had a working session with the People's Committee of Lao Cai province on the implementation of the investment project to build the Lao Cai - Hanoi - Hai Phong railway line, the section passing through Lao Cai province.
At the meeting, the consulting unit reported on the planning plan for the square area in front of the station; the location and design plan for Lao Cai station and Yen Bai station. Accordingly, Nam Lao Cai station is located on the opposite bank, 1.5 km from the existing Lao Cai station. Yen Bai Nam station is located in the new planning area on the south bank of the Red River, about 2 km from the existing city center. Each station has 02 architectural options.
Regarding the plan, the groundbreaking ceremony is expected to take place on December 19th, 2025 at 5 connecting points including Lao Cai, Phu Tho, Bac Hong, Luong Tai and Hai Duong Nam stations. Of which, Lao Cai will be chosen as the main connecting point of the Project and the remaining 4 points will be organized online.

Speaking at the meeting, Deputy Minister of Construction Nguyen Danh Huy highly appreciated the planning and design of Lao Cai and Yen Bai stations; at the same time, he emphasized the requirement to complete the project documents and station architectural documents in an optimal direction, ensuring feasibility in both the immediate and long-term periods.
Specifically, Lao Cai Station agreed to select Option 1, ensuring modernity while clearly reflecting the identity of the border area, with a harmonious design between the roof, façade, and the station square. Yen Bai Station chose Option 2, but requires additional materials and decorative patterns that more clearly reflect the cultural characteristics of the Yen Bai region.
In addition, the Deputy Minister requested the Railway Project Management Unit to promptly finalize the program, scenarios, and speeches for the groundbreaking ceremony; to work closely with relevant agencies to prepare the plan for live television broadcasting at all connecting points. At the same time, the presiding agency must coordinate with relevant sectors and the authorities of Lao Cai Province to ensure security, order, and proper traffic management throughout the duration of the project’s groundbreaking event.
It is known that the Lao Cai - Hanoi - Hai Phong railway, the section passing through Lao Cai province, has a length of 143.29km through 12 communes and wards in the province. The total cost of site clearance is about 8,200 billion VND). There are 05 stations and 04 technical stations (1 Van Ban technical station is adjusted to become a passenger station).
It is planned to have 37 resettlement areas (6 sites already cleared; 1 site for relocating a kindergarten; 30 sites to be newly constructed). There are 104 active projects in the Dong Pho Moi Industrial Zone, and 2 industrial clusters (Dong Pho Moi, Son Man - Van Hoa) must be relocated to serve the construction of the new Lao Cai station.
