According to Vietnam Air Traffic Management Corporation, this radar system is one of the important items of Component 2 Project "Air traffic management facilities", invested by Vietnam Air Traffic Management Corporation (VATM), in coordination with the UK contractor Easat Radar Systems Limited (EASAT).

After nearly 3 weeks of urgent construction, overcoming many difficulties in weather conditions, terrain and strict technical requirements, the installation and initial inspection of the primary/secondary surveillance radar system at Long Thanh has been completed on schedule, ensuring technical and safety standards.
The installed radar system is a combination of Primary Surveillance Radar (PSR) and Secondary Surveillance Radar (SSR), allowing simultaneous detection and tracking of multiple targets in the control area. This technology fully meets the strict standards of the International Civil Aviation Organization (ICAO) and the European Aviation Safety Organization (EUROCONTROL).
With a long scanning range, high accuracy and good anti-interference ability, this radar system will play the role of the "magic eye" of the Ho Chi Minh Area Control Center (ACC HCM) in monitoring and operating flight operations in the entire southern airspace, especially the key area around Long Thanh airport - which is expected to have the highest flight density in the country in the near future.

The completion of the installation of surveillance radar in Long Thanh marks an important step in modernizing Vietnam's air traffic monitoring system.
When officially put into operation, this system will enhance the coverage and quality of surveillance for the Ho Chi Minh City Flight Information Region (FIR), especially in the Southeast region and the North-South air route. It will hehp air traffic controllers with accurate, continuous and comprehensive data; thereby improving air traffic management capacity and ensuring safety, efficiency and high productivity for civil and commercial aviation activities in the area.
This is also a fundamental technical component, serving the exploitation of phase 1 of Long Thanh International Airport
