The Ministry of Transport has assigned the Civil Aviation Authority of Việt Nam to develop a master plan for Nà Sản Airport.
The masterplan of Nà Sản Airport, which is in northern mountainous Sơn La Province, is due to be completed by 2025.
The project of Nà Sản Airport is a part of the comprehensive development plan for the national airport system for the period 2021-2030, with a vision to 2050.
Following the directives of the Government Standing Committee and government leaders, the Ministry of Transport has closely collaborated with relevant ministries and agencies to review, unify and finalise the proposal for mobilising social investment, management and exploitation of airport infrastructure.
The ministry has reported the results to the Prime Minister and recommended that the relevant authorities consider and allow the ministry to report to the Politburo in the third quarter of 2024.
Once the proposal is approved, the Ministry of Transport will work closely with provincial and municipal People's Committees to build and complete the proposal for socialising investment and exploitation of local airports, including Nà Sản Airport.
The Nà Sản Airport construction project will have a total investment of approximately VNĐ2 trillion (US$80 million) under public-private partnership investment.
Nà Sản Airport was constructed in 1950 and operated during the 1960s, but was later shut down due to a lack of passengers. The airport resumed operations in 1994, but in 2004, it was closed again as the runway had deteriorated and no longer met operational standards.
Nà Sản Airport is located in Mai Sơn District, Sơn La Province, in the northwest region of Việt Nam. It is 187km from Nội Bài International Airport, 110km from Điện Biên Airport, 720km from Đà Nẵng, and 1,190km from Tân Sơn Nhất Airport.
