Vietnam Electricity began construction on a seaport for the Duyen Hai Electricity Centre in the southern province of Tra Vinh on April 21.

The port is part of a master plan for power complex construction in Dan Thanh commune, Duyen Hai district. It aims to handle 12 million tonnes of coal and 100,000 tonnes of oil per year for the centre’s three thermal power plants.

The port covering more than 427 hectares of water will have two coal terminals for 30,000-tonne ships, one oil terminal for 1,000-tonne ships, a 3.9km bulkhead, and a loading/unloading coal system in place with electricity, water and communication facilities.

It is being built by China Communications Construction Company Ltd. with a total investment of over VND5.8 trillion (about US$280 million) and is scheduled for completion in 32 months.
