The evening of December 28, at Park Square Vinh Phuc Vinh Phuc province held a ceremony to announce the decision on recognition of Vinh Yen as a type II city and celebrate 115 years of urban Vinh Yen.

The ceremony was attended by Politburo members: Secretary of the Party Central Committee and head of the Party Central Committee's Inspection Commission Ngo Van Du and Deputy PM Nguyen Xuan Phuc, Minister of Construction Trinh Dinh Dung; leaders of some provinces and territories along the northern delta majority of the people of the city.

Vinh Yen city currently has a total area of over 50 square kilometres with a population of more than 100,000 and includes nine administrative units.

Over the past years, the city has seen rapid development in economy, culture and society to become a political, economic, cultural and social centre of Vinh Phuc province. Its infrastructure has been upgraded comprehensively, social security programmes have been enhanced and the quality of its human resources has been improved.

In 2014, Vinh Yen’s economy recorded a 18.4% growth rate with an annual income per capita of US$4,019, while its total revenue reached VND2.2 trillion (US$102.87 million).

Addresing the ceremony, Deputy PM Nguyen Xuan Phuc praised the great achievemnts Vinh Yen had gained in all fields and emphasised that the city has an enormous potential for further development.

He also urged the city to promote its achievements over the past 115 years and mobilise all resources to develop its infrastruture and create a modern road system, making Vinh Yen a green, clean and beautiful urban area.
